Fond of dancing from an early age, Delya fell in love with Oriental music as a teenager.
Then it all became clear to her : combine her two passions and start Oriental dance. That's when her love story with this dance of 1001 wonders started.
She first trained with teachers in her area : Djamila Henni Chebra and Maryon; then with master teachers such as Raqia Hassan, Momo Kadous, Yousry Sharif, GamalSeif, Farida Seidi, Melisdjane, Helen Hericksen... with whom she followed workshops, professional training and private tuitions. She is still training today with some of them.
Thanks to her multiple influences, her training and her experience, in June 2009, she won the Third Prize at the prestigious Raks Sharqi Contest in Berlin organised byBeate and Horacio Cifuentes as well as the 'Audience Prize' in the contest organised by Farida Seidi as a tribute to Nagwa Fouad and Raqia Hassan.
The Oriental culture is a part of her life which she enriches with trips and Middle-Eastern dance classes, mainly Debke. She travels regularly to Lebanon to attend classes and perform as a soloist as well as a member of a Zaffa, a traditional dance troup performing at weddings. Lebanese TV has also asked her to choreograph an Oriental dance scene in a film with actor Madji Machmouchi.
As a professional Oriental dancer and teacher in Lyon and the surrounding area, she set up 'l'Association Delya (Danse Egyptienne LYon Association) which offers shows and workshops, and which is often invited to perform in France and abroad (Paris, Lebanon, Germany, Spain, Switzerland...)
She joined Farida Seidi's Dance Company in 2010-2011 with which she performed occasionally, notably opening the show in which Dina from Cairo performed in Saint Etienne.
Delya is now performing and teaching in Lyon (France) and Zurich (Switzerland) and is also regularly asked by other dancers to create choreographies for them in her unique style.
